Virtual Town Hall

Updated: May 22, 2020

In the past, Senior Advocate has provided relevant information by publishing a print magazine and, more recently, by hosting large educational events throughout Hampton Roads. Now, as we all know, times have changed and during this coronavirus pandemic, all of our current Senior Advocate events have been rescheduled to later dates. While we understand that we should not currently gather in large numbers, we still strive to educate our seniors by sharing timely information with them.

So, we have created this Virtual Hampton Roads Town Hall on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) to get answers to some of the questions that we have received from our Senior Advocate followers. We hope you find the panel informative and helpful during these times.

We would like to give our distinguished panel members our deepest gratitude for their valuable time and helpful insights.

Mr. Paul Gaden, MBA, is the President for Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, a 174-bed facility within the Sentara Healthcare system. Mr. Gaden has been at Sentara Princess Anne since August 2019. Mr. Gaden brings a wealth of operational and financial leadership to the hospital, as well as a continued focus on community partnerships.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Gaden has held executive positions for a number of health systems across the country, including as the CEO of Bon Secours DePaul and Bon Secours Maryview Medical Centers in Hampton Roads since March, 2018.

He has also served in operational and financial executive positions with Catholic health systems in Oregon, Texas and Virginia, as well as the University of Virginia Health System.

Mr. Gaden is no stranger to Sentara. He has served as director of finance for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital from 2006 to 2009 where he provided financial leadership to Sentara Healthcare's flagship facility.

As a board-certified physician and Chief Medical Officer who’s a native of this community, Dr. Lisa Price Stevens feels privileged to support seniors here. “There is so much to gain from this generation and they deserve quality care,” she says. Dr. Stevens first realized her calling at 7 years old—after spending time at the hospital where her mom worked and saving a family member using the Heimlich maneuver. “With patients today,” Dr. Stevens says, “I listen intently and build trusting bonds. I especially love empowering patients by providing them with medical knowledge that is easy to understand.”

In her time off, Dr. Stevens enjoys mentoring teens and traveling with her family. She hopes to one day visit the beaches of Rio De Janeiro and the Greek Islands.

Walt Zaremba began his legal career in 1993 as a General Practice Attorney concentrating on estate planning, contract law, business organization and domestic relations. Walt’s legal practice has evolved into a firm which dedicates itself to Estate Planning and Elder Law. The firm’s mission is to ensure that clients are provided with an estate plan that “works.” In other words, the firm is committed to creating an estate plan, tailored to the individual client that enables the client, not the court system or governmental bureaucracies, to stay in control of their health and wealth regardless of their current and future circumstances.

In 1995, Walt was elected to serve his community as a member of the York County Board of Supervisors serving the citizens of the first district. He is now in his fifth four-year term. Walt considers himself privileged to serve the citizens of York County which includes the town of Yorktown where America’s freedom was won on October 19, 1781. He is immensely proud to be of service in assisting to shape the future of this American Legacy.

After high school, Walt enlisted in the United States Army and rose through the ranks from Private to Colonel. He was a Special Forces (Green Beret) Officer during his first combat tour to Vietnam in 1966. During his second combat tour to Vietnam in 1970, he served as the Operations Officer of a Direct Support Artillery Battalion. He is a much-decorated Officer; awarded both the National Distinguished Services Medal as well as the Purple Heart. His overseas tours, in addition to Vietnam, included assignments to Germany, Italy, Korea and Somalia. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.

Walt earned his B.A. in Political Science from Texas Lutheran College; an M.A. in Political Science from Kansas University; and a J.D. from Wayne State University. His Civic and Community Service includes Honorary Chairman “First Night of Williamsburg 2001”; Williamsburg Kiwanis Club Board of Directors; Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Board. he was inducted into the Field Artillery OCS Hall of Fame, Fort Sill, Oklahoma in June 2004 and the Keyport High School Hall of Fame 2002, Keyport, New Jersey. David Clemens has the privilege of serving as a First Vice President, Portfolio Management Director, and Insurance Planning Director with Morgan Stanley in Williamsburg, VA. He focuses his efforts on designing and implementing wealth management strategies for high net worth families. By listening carefully to each client’s goals, values, aspirations and concerns, David is able to serve as their trusted financial advisor.

After graduating from Fairfield University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, David spent several years pursuing a career in the biotech field with a focus on cancer research. He soon found that as much as he appreciated a disciplined approach to research, working directly with people was a deeper calling.

David began my career in financial services in part because of a strong curiosity for markets and investing, but also because of the opportunity to help people live a meaningful and dignified life. He focuses primarily on advising his clients on all matters pertinent to their family’s wealth.

David enjoys a balanced life with his wife Heather, his son Chris, and his daughter Mary. As an active member of the Williamsburg, VA community since 1998, David commits his time and efforts to several volunteer organizations including the Williamsburg Youth Baseball League, the Boy Scouts, St. Bede Catholic Church, Walsingham Academy, and The Williamsburg House of Mercy.

Senior Advocate (SeniorAdvocate.Live) was established in Hampton Roads, Virginia in 2000 by Stephanie Smith. Her experience in caring for her grandmother, who developed Alzheimer's disease, sparked Smith’s interest in issues involving the needs of older adults. Her hands-on experience providing care management for seniors and their families made her aware that these families were often ill-informed about resources available to help them. She also became aware that even the professionals who were providing services to seniors were frequently in need of additional information and options. Senior Advocate is committed to meeting those needs through hosting educational events and by promoting SeniorAdvocate.Live, an informative, up-to-date website for both seniors and healthcare professionals. Senior Advocate strives to provide regional, comprehensive, and targeted information to empower seniors to live healthy, productive lives and to allow professionals to be as knowledgeable as possible about local services and healthcare initiatives.
