FEBRUARY 26: THE HUNTINGTONS: ROBBER BARONS AT THEIR BEST

Collis P. Huntington was born into poverty, yet he became a multi-millionaire during the California Gold Rush building railroads. He constructed part of the Transcontinental Railroad using bribes, political graft, and mistreatment of his workers. After having an affair while his wife had cancer, Huntington married the poor and unknown Arabella Yarrington. Yarrington later married Huntington’s nephew and became the wealthiest woman in the Gilded Age.
