JANUARY 29: VIRGINIA SCANDALS: TALES THAT SHOCKED THE COMMONWEALTH

Virginia is often called the ‘Mother of Presidents’ and was home to the first English speaking permanent settlement in the New World - people who did indeed have many faults. Scandals ranged from Virginia Treasury loans given to indebted Virginia elites to the evil Henry “Blackhorse” Lee who allowed his wife to become an opium addict, bedded her sister causing her to become pregnant, and then sold his sister-in-law’s inheritance.
